Well, I have been waiting for the release of H@me 2.0 and I understand and support the need to charge for it. However, $40 is over the top. Make it half the price and I’ll buy it.
Dan:
Thanks for continuing to work on the software. It’s great, and now much faster!
I was able to connect from outside my network just fine with H@ME v1, but I’ve just bought v2 and for some reason I can’t get it to work. I can connect fine inside my network, but entering my DNS name (I use TZO to map a fixed name to my dynamic IP) under IP gives me a “Connection Failed” error. I can successfully use my DNS name in my “PC Access” software to connect to my OmniPro, so I’m not sure what’s going on here.
@Chris H@me 2.0 uses a new protocol from HAI which uses TCP rather then UDP, make sure that your firewall/router/cable modem is forwarding at least TCP or both TCP and UDP. I suspect this is the problem. Let me know how it goes!
I have really enjoy H@me but I think that 1/2 of the current price ($39.99)is still over the top. I know that it cost to develop an app but this is too much.
@Mike and @Klaus I’m sorry you feel 39$ is too much, but let me make a few points on why I picked this price point.
1. The HAI user base for this application is much smaller then most iPhone applications, I don’t have thousands of users.
2. Apple takes 30% of the selling price
3. Much of the proceeds are going to upgrade my own system as well to purchase additional iPads and iPhones (Yes this is a great benefit to me as well, I’m not complaining here, I have a technology addiction and this helps feed it). This allows me to support more type of devices.
4. It is still less then what HAI is charging for their Windows mobile application, and in my opinion much much better.
5.Given the investment many of us have made in our home automation technology, 39$ does not seem to be outrageous.
Well said about the price. I am also in software development so I understand the time and testing involved to make a good product. I am willing to pay a reasonable price for software that just works. However this software is more then just works, we get free updates based on our requests. I will be purchasing it for the existing price once I can verify that it will connect and work with my system. Hence the “Lite” version, which Dan said should be out next week.
Everyone that downloaded and used the original “FREE” version saw the quality and usability of the free version. Just imagine what Dan is willing to do with this already proven program when he gets paid for his time.
Thanks again Dan for developing this app. I look forward to using it.
I just bought V2.0 and have no complaints about the price…I understand the user base issue. Now that I have paid I feel I can start screaming (LOL) for multiple area support!
I think the price is good, I’ve bought with eyes closed because the eprom on my omni pro arrive next week … however in Italy costs 39.99 Euro .. about $ 55! However, it is a very good job Dan.
vinc
@Jason, thanks!
@John Do scream, I think that will be the next big feature.
@Borvin, Please let me know how it goes, also I welcome feedback about H@me’s Celsius support.
Dan – I bought the 2.0 version. I’d like to put in my scream for multi-area support! Again, great product!
Great App, I love it. Would be good to have user setting on it
Excellent app all around…and the price is more than fair all things considered…One issue I am having that I did not have with ver1.x is that now in the Temp Section, I have an “extra” mystery line item “Thermostats” (plural) OmniProII running 3.2D with 4 thermostats outside temp sensor. In ver1 only the 4 thermostats outside temp showed. I checked thermostats via PC Access 3. Thermostats 001-004 are the only thermostats listed. The mystery “Thermostats” appears to always read 37 degrees F. Everything else works flawlessly…
@Errol thanks for the positive feedback!. In the thermostats section I’m first pulling all thermostats then any aux sensors on your system. Do you have something called “thermostats” named in the auxiliary sensors section? Could it be a temperature alarm or energy saver module (or something other then a humidity or temperature sensor)?
Hmmm…interesting…Upon further review, I looked under “Zones” this time and found an entry for “Thermostats” which appears to be where it is coming from. My dealer programmed the system initially though I’ve done everything since. Not sure why (or even if) I need a zone for thermostats, but until I learn more I’m hesitant to delete it. I will do more research and possibly involve the dealer. I apologize for having bothered you with this…
@Errol no bother at all. Can you tell what type of sensor it is? I assume in my app that sensors are either humidity or temperature types when in fact there are a few more niche varieties.
Sorry for delay, took awhile to get an answer from the dealer. He responded back that all tstats connect to Zone 16 and cannot be moved or deleted. The indoor thermostats are the HAI Omnistats. The outdoor temp sensor is the HAI version. Interesting that “Thermostats” shows up in 2.0 but did not in 1.0 I am only speculating that it is Zone 16 due to fact it is plural there as well. Other temp names mirror programming names.
Hi Dan I bought the software and must congratulate you on it. It is amazing. When can you add multiple system support. I have 2 Locations I want to control.
Thank you!
I have H@ME 1.1 and have been looking forward the next major release. But at $40, I’ll continue to use 1.1 — It allows me to control my lights, change the temperature of my thermostats, and change the security mode just fine… so THANK YOU! I understand that you want to make money, but $40 is just WAY too expensive. I’d definitely buy it at $10, and might consider it at $20 (which would still be the most expensive app I’ve ever purchased by A FACTOR OF 10) but not at $40. I’ll add it to Bargain Bin to send me a notification when you put it on sale, you know, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day or something.
@Jarvis, sorry you feel that 40$ is too much. I take it you have read my reply above about the reasons I’m charging the amount i am? In my system, 39$ is the cheapest thing connected to my Omni, its also one of the most useful. I have found that the vast majority of users agree with me and have been very positive about supporting the continued development of H@me.
I can’t download Full version, is it still available?
Hey Russ, 2.0.6 had a bug that prevented preferences from being saved, so I pulled it until 2.0.7 get’s approved. Hopefully it will be back up on Monday.
Dan, I bought the app after owning ver 1.0. FANTASTIC!!! Thank you so much for your hard work. I agree that $39 is the cheapest thing connected to my system, and well worth it.
Thanks for the hard work and r & d. I found this site because I swapped my board out (Pro II) and could not save my info. Just read the above post and understand now. I am an HAI dealer and recomend this app to EVERYBODY with an iPhone. No suggestions for now, just happy I can open my garage, disarm the house, turn down the A/C, and turn on the lights with 1 buton. From my iPhone! I am curious about the Snaplink for iPhone, but after looking at it, I’ll stick with yours. And if people think that $39 is too much, wait until they see the price of Snaplink! Thanks again.
Jeremy, thanks for the great feedback! If you do have any ideas, suggestions or comments I would love to hear about them at http://getsatisfaction.com/iphonehome , I have really enjoyed adding features that users have directly asked for.
Is the price of $39 for home 2.0 a one time fee or a monthly charge? Also what is HAI? I am interested in installing my own home security system and using my iPhone to manage it for minimal cost and no monthly fees. Will this work?
Application keeps dropping Sync and won’t re-sync so I am now away from home & can’t control lights, temp, security making it unreliable…there is no way for me to correct this from iPhone.
Dan great app, I am an HAI installer, and have recommended h@me to customers. Right now mine and one customers, cannot see status of UPB lighting, if the switch turns it on/off, but a copy of Haiku app sees status, so switches etc are set up OK. Any ideas??
